On July 28th, 2015 Kiambu Women’s Representative Hon. Annah Nyokabi – KIAMBU women’s representative partnered with Upendo Womens Foundation to ensure that no girl drops out of school due to lack of sanitary pads. Together we were able to help 300 girls with Washable Resusable Sanitary Kits to primary schoolgirls in Ruiru subcounty.

“The kit has eight reusable towels which the girls can use for up to three years,” she said.

Nyokabi spoke in Githurai Kimbo at PEFA church.

She said 300 girls from Kimbo-Githurai, Mwiki and Kwa Ng’ethe primary schools will get the sanitary towels.

Nyokabi said she has partnered with Upendo Foundation from California, USA to support girls and boys in schools in the county.

She said boys will be given underwears “so they do not feel neglected”.

Nyokabi said most pupils in the three schools come from poor families.

“Most of the students here either come from poor backgrounds or are victims of absentee fathers,” she said.

Nyokabi said her priority is to empower women and the youth using the Sh7 million CDF kitty.

She said she will set up a resource centre where women will seek information on reproductive health, business opportunities and other services offered by the national and county governments.

Nyokabi said she will partner with the county government to ensure youth from all the 60 wards undergo vocational training and help fight alcoholism.

Upendo Womens Foundation Executive Director Njeri Thubei said that with this visit they have managed to help out 2,000 girls in Kenya, Malawi and Zanzibar.

The foundation has been operating for three years.

“We have donated similar kits in Maragua, Samburu, Kibera,” Thubei said.
